Wi-fi Connected, Energy Saving Fridges Hitting the Market

Featuring touch screen panels and wi-fi access, a new line of connected fridges can both dispense ice and allow owners to check their Twitter accounts with the push of a button.

More importantly, by connecting these appliances to a smart grid consumers will be able to control consumption based on power needs and usage. The ability to connect remotely and save energy through automatic monitoring highlights a significant benefit of the high-speed networks in the 21st century.

According to the manufacturer:

"These fridges will come with an 8" integrated color touch panel and will be connected to your home network and to the internet via Wi-Fi in order to give you direct access to Twitter, Google, AP, Pandora as well as some very useful apps/services including Epi, Note and your Fridge basic information and weather forecast."

As more of these types of smart appliances hit the market, we must ensure that our network can handle the increased bandwidth so that emerging technology can continue to improve lives.
