NTIA and RUS looking to streamline broadband stimulus
The Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) are responsible for allocating $7.2 billion worth of Recovery Act stimulus.
The agencies are seeking public comment on possible changes for the second and final round of funding. In the first round, over 2,000 applications requested nearly $28 billion in grants and loans. Announcement of first-round grants are expected in early December.
Public input will be elicited over a 15 day period on "procedural and policy aspects of the programs including ways to streamline the application process and best address privacy issues".
The NTIA hopes the public response will help speed the allocation process up and provide better targeted results.
