CenturyLink offers 1 GB to Omaha

The latest outbreak of 1 GB consumer Internet service is occurring in Omaha, where CenturyLink, Inc. announced that it will begin wiring its customers for the super high speed fiber connection. "CenturyLink is upgrading its existing fiber architecture in west Omaha to create a more robust network that delivers fiber optic connections directly to homes and businesses," said the company's announcement.

CenturyLink's move follows similar announcements by AT&T and Google in other locales, including Austin, Texas and Provo, Utah.

According to the company, "CenturyLink begins rolling out its 1 Gbps service next week and expects to have its new fiber network available to all 48,000 customers by early October 2013."
