Who's to blame for Verizon's poor service in Washington, DC?

Verizon would have you believe it's their workers' fault. The telecom giant recently made an agreement with the DC City Council to improve service by addressing worker training and customer service issues.

But the real root of the problem is Verizon's continued failure to invest in its DC networks. In May 2008, CWA representatives will testify before the Public Service Commission and urge them to make Verizon fully invest in DC. You can strengthen our voice by attending a rally before the hearing to demand safe, reliable, quality telecommunications services.

Residents of the District of Columbia - the nation's capitol - deserve the best. But Verizon, the company that provides phone and Internet service to thousands of households and businesses, is neglecting its customers and denying DC access to the best available technology. The Connect-DC coaltion has come together to demand that Verizon:

Build Fiber Optic Service (FiOS) in all parts of the city by the end of 2008.
Rebuild and maintain its existing copper telephone network for all DC residents and businesses.
Employ DC residents in DC facilities to build FiOS and sustain existing infrastructure. Over the last 3 years Verizon has moved a third of its jobs out of the District.
