Verizon CEO says read his lips: no new FiOS

Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam told attendees at a major media conference that the company is not going to extend its FiOS range.

“More and more things are going mobile and I think there are more opportunities to partner out of market with companies that are there vs. us going in and deploying FiOS.” He said at the UBS bank’s 41st Annual Global Media & Communications Conference in New York.

For the most part, that means that if you’re not already in a FiOS area, you’re out of luck. However, McAdam did say that Verizon will continue to grow in Texas, where it already has nearly half the market for broadband and mobile.

According to communications blog Fierce Telecom, Verizon hopes to drive subscribers to access content on both fixed and mobile devices, firmly cementing their relationship with the company.
