U.S. TVs increasingly connected to the Internet
Research firm Connected Intelligence found that nationally, in some 42 million U.S. homes there is at least one television which is connected to the Internet “either via a video game console, Blu-ray disc player, streaming media player or the TV itself.”
Connected Intelligence analyzes devices, broadband access and content services for other businesses and issues private reports. In their most recent look at the subject, NPD Connected Intelligence Connected Home Report, they found that over the year between Q1 2013 and Q1 2014, some six million additional homes acquired a TV connected to the Internet.
John Buffone, executive director, Connected Intelligence said, “The increase in connected TV and streaming media player penetration is proof that consumers are investing in solutions that can provide app-related content in the simplest, most effective way.”
