Telemedicine centers bridge the medical gap all over the world

Broadband infrastructure is expanding job opportunities and increasing access to healthcare in rural villages across the world. The latest example comes from Uttar Pradesh, India.

A global health organization called World Health Partners (WHP) is establishing telemedicine centers in rural and semi-rural areas of India and trains local women to run them.

Using broadband internet, computers, web-cams and medical technologies, WHP's centers connect villagers to qualified medical physicians in larger cities. In addition to tele-consultation, villagers receive counseling services and even have access to certain medicines.

Response to the medical services and job training has been positive and there are plans to create more than 2,000 health centers in Uttar Pradesh. Each center can support ten to twelve villages.
