One Economy Launches National Technology Adoption Advisory Council
One Economy — a global nonprofit dedicated to universal broadband and a Speed Matters partner — recently announced the launch of the National Technology Adoption Advisory Council (NTAAC) to promote broadband opportunity for all.
The council is a bi-partisan coalition of local elected officials who have made increased access to technology a part of their civic platforms, and who have sought out public and private sector funding to support broadband adoption initiatives.
By bringing these leaders together, the NTAAC will empower local and state governments to continue to bridge the digital divide.
In the words of Jonathan F. Austin, NTAAC Co-Chair and Birmingham City Councilor:
"One Economy and this council have a wealth of knowledge, ideas, expertise and partnerships that can, and will create a sustainable broadband adoption program nationwide."
Two co-chairs and a six-member executive panel currently comprise the council's leadership with representatives from the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast, Northwest/West, Southeast and Southwest Regions.
This is the latest in One Economy's efforts to increase broadband adoption. In early 2010, their Digital Connectors program was awarded a Broadband Technology Opportunities Project grant to promote digital literacy to about 20 million Americans.
