Genachowski Credits CWA Support for FCC's Open Internet Rules

In announcing the FCC's Open Internet rules, Chairman Genachowski called the framework one that will protect the intrinsic openness of the web, while creating a place for investment and innovation to thrive.

In Genachowski's own words:

We're adopting a framework that will increase certainty for businesses, investors, and entrepreneurs. We're taking an approach that will help foster a cycle of massive investment, innovation and consumer demand both at the edge and in the core of our broadband networks.

The Communications Workers of America supports the proposal and believes it is one that will protect consumers while codifying the norms that keep the Internet open and vibrant and create incentives for investment and jobs.

In his address, Genachowski used the support of the CWA as well as other key consumer, labor, and civil rights groups — including the Consumer Federation of America, Consumers Union, and the National Urban League — to bolster the credibility of the framework. Highlighted in numerous publications, from the Hill, to the Washington Post, and Broadcasting & Cable, the endorsement of so many key players is a sign to the technology and investment communities that this framework is the right step forward.

As a leading broadband policy group heavily invested in universal broadband, high speed, open Internet principles, good jobs, and consumer protections, the CWA will continue to support the FCC in endeavors that are rooted in these core principles.
