FCC Commissioner Clyburn sounds support for Comcast public hearings
FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn has now publicly stated her support for public hearings on the proposed NBCU-Comcast merger.
In remarks at the Free Press Summit in Washington, DC, Commissioner Clyburn urged her fellow FCC commissioners to require public hearings on the pending merger between NBC Universal and Comcast.
Clyburn's signal of support for public hearings echoes similar requests made by many lawmakers lately, including Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and members of the Black and Hispanic Congressional Caucuses.
Clyburn noted that public hearings give the Commission opportunity to interact with consumers and see up-close how they feel about the merger. She emphasized that the Commission needs to hear the voices of ordinary Americans over the loud clamor of Washington lobbyists.
Public comments on the proposed Comcast-NBCU merger are due at the FCC on June 21.
