CWA-FTTH Council send letter to Congress urging 100 Mbps by 2015

This week, CWA teamed up with the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council to send a letter to important Congressional Committee leaders urging prompt action on legislation calling for nationwide availability of 100 Mbps networks by 2015.

The letter referred to Senate Resolution 191 and House Resolution 1292, companion resolutions that call for universal 100 Mbps service by 2015, and universal 10 Mbps service by 2010. They also call for the adoption of a national strategy by 2009 to help achieve those high speed goals.

The Senate version was introduced by Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, while the House version was introduced by Rep. Annie Eshoo.

As the joint CWA-FTTH Council letter states,

"As you know, a critical first step in developing America's broadband strategy is to envision where we want to go.  By establishing these ambitious national goals, Congress can communicate to the nation a robust vision of telecommunications infrastructure which will encourage a vibrant economy and enhance the social welfare of all Americans."

The letter went to both Republican and Democratic leaders of the Senate Commerce Committee, House Energy and Commerce Committee, and the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet.
